A Westport man has self-published a book about his trek nearly a decade ago to a peak in the Himalayas below Mt. Everest.

"The Trek" recounts David Schachne's 2004 climb to the summit of Kala Patthar -- an elevation 600 feet above the base camp used by Everest climbers but still nearly 11,000 vertical feet below Everest.

Now 52, he said he recently finished the book after writing for about nine months.

He said he book was available through Amazon and Smashwords and by October would be available through Barnes and Noble Nook, Apple itunes/bookstore, SONY, Kobo, Flipkart, Diesel eBook, Baker & Taylor, Page Foundry and others.
