The cries -- Bingo! Bingo! -- echoed excitedly through the banquet room at Westport Woman's Club, which was hosting its annual fall fundraiser Sunday afternoon.

Coordinated by Wendy McKeon of the club's Scholarship Committee, the event raised money to help area students with college costs.

Mary Lee Clayton, the club president, said the bingo games prove to be among the club's most popular activities. "It's a lot of fun and we really enjoy doing this," she said. "It draws a different group and is a good intro to the club."

Given the recent rainy weather, Sunday wasn't a bad day to be inside, where long tables had been set up to accommodate some 60 attendees. "It's great to be here today to raise funds and help area people," said Brooke Miles-Prouten of Westport, who was among the lucky w-i-n-n-e-r-s.
