Westport Senior Legion hurler Alex Bauer took the bull by the horns Sunday in leading his team to victory.

The right-handed Bauer pitched a complete game and allowed an earned run on five hits in leading Westport to a 5-1 victory at Ridgefield. Bauer also walked four, hit two batters and struck out seven. Westport raised its record to 5-15. Ridgefield dropped to 3-16.

First baseman James Frusciante helped Bauer with two defensive gems.

Westport took a 2-0 lead by scoring runs in the second and third innings. Frusciante singled in the second, took second base on a passed ball and scored on Alex Ludel's single. In the third, Marco Romero doubled and took third on Alex Gandolfo's single. Romero scored on Frusciante's groundout.

Ridgefield scored its run in the fifth inning. What hurt Ridgefield in the game was its failure to capitalize as it left 11 runners on base.

In the seventh, Westport broke it open. Jonathan Friedman reached on an error and was erased on Zach Mitchell's groundout. Mitchell took second on Ridgefield's errant throw in its failed attempt to complete the double play. Jimmy Kopack followed with a single and took second on the throw. Romero (two hits) then delivered a two-run single. Gandolfo (two hits) followed with a single and Frusciante drove in Romero with a groundout.

Kopack finished the game with two singles. Mitchell and Chris Speer also hit singles for Westport.
