BERTHA FRANCES WAKEMAN

Born in Bridgeport on May 24, 1922, she was daughter of the late William and Katherine (Skiba) Perkowski and had been a lifelong resident of Westport.
Wakeman attended Westport schools and, after graduating from Staples High School, she went on to work at General Electric in Bridgeport, where she assembled radar equipment used in World War II. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Joseph J. Clinton VFW post 399.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Ann Haggerty of Westport; a sister, Doris Gallo of Stratford; her grandson, Patrick Haggerty of Westport; a great-grandson, Patrick Edward Nixon Haggerty; and one sister-in-law, Frances Perkowski.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Edward Wakeman Jr.; one brother, Edward Perkowski; and two sisters, Jean and Helen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, at St. Luke Church, 49 Turkey Hill Road N., Westport; interment will be private. The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport, on Wednesday, June 23, from 6 to 8 p.m.
