The Westport Arts Center has issued a call for entries to its ninth annual SOLOS exhibition, which showcases works of the center's member artists.

The works of up to eight artists will be selected by a juror for the show, which is scheduled from May 8 to June 27, the center said. Artists who are not current members may join the center and then submit entries.

Entries will be judged by Richard Klein, exhibitions director of the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, who has organized more than 80 exhibits, the arts center said in a news release.

In the release, Klein commended the arts center for the exhibition's format -- showcasing multiple works by a limited number of artists rather than one or two works by a large number of artists.

"Offering small solo exhibitions to a select group is better for both the artist and the public," he said in the release. "I keenly look forward to reviewing this year's submissions."

A digital application workshop for prospective entrants is scheduled on Wednesday, March 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the 51 Riverside Ave. arts center. It will instruct artists in putting together what the arts center called a "cohesive and attractive digital artist packet" for applying to online juried shows.

The workshop will cover how to digitally photograph artwork, create labels and archive work, write an artist statement, and how to submit work through online jury sites, the center said. The cost of the session is $20, $15 for arts center members.

The entry fee for the exhibition is $35, and the deadline for entries is March 18. Late entries will be accepted through March 25 for an additional $10 fee, the center said.

Selected artists will be announced April 10.

Fees for the arts center's most basic memberships are $35 for young artists up to age 25; $50 for individuals over 25; and $75 for families.
