Admirers of classic automobiles often compare them to works of art, so it's fitting that a Bridgeport art gallery plans to open a satellite space in Westport at Dragone Classic Motor Cars, 176 Post Road West.

An opening for City Lights West will take place at the car dealership this Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Artwork will be displayed both in Dragone's front showroom, as well as a larger gallery space at the rear of the business, according to George Dragone, co-owner of Dragone Classic Motor Cars.

City Lights West draws its name from City Lights and Co., an art gallery and community-based arts organization in downtown Bridgeport. The gallery organizers' mission is to help raise awareness of the growing arts community in the Park City and provide a showcase for local artists' work.

Dragone Classic Motor Cars, which opened its Westport showroom last February, also has roots in Bridgeport, with a site on Main Street.

Asked why he and his brother Manny chose to turn part of their Westport property over to an art gallery, Dragone replied, "Anything to promote art and culture in Bridgeport, we're involved in."

The new gallery, he added, "gives City Lights an opportunity to expand and expose the people in the Westport area to artists from the Bridgeport area."

There is a suggested donation of $20 for the Saturday reception, which will feature art, classic cars, music, wine and hors d'oeuvres.
