Arizona National Guard Unit back from Guantanamo deployment
PHOENIX (AP) — Dozens of Arizona National Guard soldiers returning from a deployment to the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are being welcomed home.
The National Guard says about 50 soldiers with the headquarters and headquarters detachment of the 850th Military Police Battalion conducted command and support activities for Joint Task Force Guantanamo in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Guard's adjutant general, Air Force Maj. Gen. Michael T. McGuire, was scheduled to join family, friends and fellow service members at an event Saturday afternoon at the Papago Park Military Reservation on Saturday to welcome back the unit.
The unit deployed last December to the Guantanamo Bay base, which includes a military prison.
