An 18-year-old town resident was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs following a motor vehicle stop early Wednesday.

Thomas Aldrich of Clapboard Road was charged with operating under the influence.

Aldrich was stopped at 3:47 a.m. Wednesday when officers on patrol noticed a "suspicious" vehicle, according to a police report.

"Immediately upon approaching Aldrich, officers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person," the report states.

Aldrich was administered and failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested.

He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 8 in Norwalk Superior Court.
