David Lafrance was charged with sixth degree larceny in Westport on Dec. 19.

WESTPORT — An Oxford man who allegedly stole a pair of high-end sunglasses from Specs of Westport last month was caught this week.

David Lafrance, 36, walked into the glasses store around 10:50 a.m. Nov. 29 and tried on several pairs of expensive sunglasses with the help of service representatives in the store. While the workers were distracted, Lafrance placed a pair of glasses in his pocket and left without paying for them, according to police.

Using Specs interior surveillance, police obtained an image of Lafrance, then unidentified, and sent it to local news agencies and posted it on the department social media pages. Police received assistance that provided them with the Lafrance’s name and identifying information.

On Dec. 19, Lafrance was arrested on a warrant and charged with sixth-degree larceny. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court Dec. 28.; @SophieCVaughan1
