Social Lites - April Sound

At a special meeting of the April Sound Civic Association’s Board of Trustees, three new trustees were approved and welcomed. Sara Hamblin, Traci Myers and Matt Crews have all agreed to serve. One vacancy on the Board was created when Suzanne Reed was appointed to the POA Board of Trustees, so, even though the ASCA Board will sadly miss her, she will be very valuable on that Board and will continue to volunteer for our community. The newly appointed ASCA Board members participated in their first official event on Friday evening, Dec. 18, when the 2020 Holiday Light Judging took place. All involved met in the parking lot of the Club, split up with lists, directories, and clipboards to canvas the entire neighborhood. The winners have been posted on all social media sites and are listed below:

Best Classical/Traditional - 131 April Breeze, the Tom Cunningham Family; Best Whimsical/Animated - 105 South Park, the Schendel Family; Best Religious Theme - 104 Clear Springs, the Faragher Family; Best Interactive/Extravaganza - Eva and Jim Rains; Best Golf Course - 120 April Wind Drive North, Billy and Dolphia Hearn; Best Santa Display - 179 Parkway - the Propes Family; and Best Condo/Townhome Display - 8 Lakeview Village, Melanie and Alfred Wright. The ASCA lighting judges congratulate all the winners for their efforts, and salute all the residents of April Sound who took the time to decorate their yards and heir homes and yards for the holidays. It surely adds to the spirit of the season. You are encouraged to use this list and drive around the neighborhood to see the winning homes.

As you read this, Christmas Day has come and gone for 2020. We have, even though the pandemic restricted some of our usual activities, enjoyed the beautiful presentation at the Walden Church featuring the Montgomery High School Madrigals, the magical program, “A Night in December” at the Owen Theatre, and we loved taking our daughter and granddaughter to the final presentation of “Peter Pan” at the Crighton on Sunday afternoon. All three venues did perfectly with social distancing, and we are very grateful to all who made that special entertainment possible, even in hard situations. As we go through the Twelve Days of Christmas, may the warmth of that special day remain with us in our hearts and minds, and may we continue to reflect on our many blessings!

Now, we turn our thoughts and conversations to what the New Year 2021 will bring and what resolutions we might want to make. Oscar Wilde the playwright once said, “Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account!” Will we vow to lose weight, cut down on our alcohol intake, work harder, work less hard, finish projects, exercise more, learn something new, volunteer, meditate and pray more? Someone said, “My New Year’s Resolution is to stop hanging out with people who ask me about my New Year’s Resolutions!” Happy New Year one and all, and may 2021 bring good health, joy and happiness to all!
