October has arrived, and we have started turning thoughts toward fall activities. Some exciting events are coming to April Sound. First up, weather permitting, is the fabulous Car Show that is being planned by the Club’s Social Committee on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tom Cunningham is serving as Chairman for this event and has done a fantastic job of organization. He has distributed flyers to every car show in the entire area and is hoping for as many as 100 entrees. Categories for judging include hot rod, classic car, original, Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, classic motorcycle, motorcycle, import, classic truck, truck, paint, interior, best of show, most unique and “Mandy’s Choice”. All proceeds realized from the Car Show will go to the Texas Team Foundation, an organization that was created in 2016 to assist NSW veterans, military servicemen and women, and any first responder families in times of misfortune or an unexpected need within the state of Texas. The 2020 Car Show will be on the Reserve F property near the Country Club, and the Club will be offering food on the grounds plus will be open and serving lunch during the entire time of the show. Rain date will be the Oct. 24. So, grab your car enthusiast friends and family and plan to come enjoy this free family event!
Now, we know Halloween cannot be the same as in past years. After much contemplation, the April Sound Civic Association Board, which has sponsored the Halloween Carnival since its inception many years ago has a plan. The April Sound Tennis Center will be the site of the “Tunnel of Tricks and Treats” from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Halloween evening. The first hour from 5:30 until 6:30 will be geared to the little ones, and then we’ll turn up the “scare factor” for older children from 6:30 to 8. The entrance will be the same and everyone will walk (socially distancing) down the decorated tunnel. There will be a photography station along the way and costumed volunteers will be stationed along the route to jump out and surprise. Then, there will be an opportunity to play the ever popular Cake Walk game. This too will be adapted to meet safety regulations. Instead of chairs there will be hoops with plastic numbers and when the music stops the players will jump into the hoop of choice. All players will receive one cupcake in a sealed plastic container and the winner of each game will get a special prize. To make this Halloween Tunnel of Tricks and Treats come to fruition, we must have volunteers! We need folks to help install and decorate the tunnel, to be costumed participants along the way, to donate and package the purchased decorated cupcakes, to run the photography booth and the Cake Walk, and take down afterward. If you’re willing to help us make this Halloween very special for our April Sound children, please contact me at the address below or call Michelle Martin at 281-804-0147.
