All those who planned, participated or watched the April Sound Civic Association’s Annual Fourth of July Parade must surely agree it was a big success. The Board members who arrived early to set up everything wondered how it all would go, but as the beautifully decorated carts began to arrive, sign in and line up on Reserve F keeping six feet apart, the sound system was blaring patriotic music, the pets were ready for judging, the veteran cars, classic cars and trucks were lining up, the fire truck and Security arrived to lead out, and the weather was shining, all worries quickly disappeared. After the prizes were announced, our beautiful Christina Sato sang a perfect a cappella rendition of the Star Spangled Banner while all present saluted our flag and the parade was ready to begin. Over 50 families decorated their carts, veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan all rode in convertibles, Uncle Sam, a.k.a. Daniel Reed was in attendance, and I, Ann Marie Ricci, was honored to be the Grand Marshal this year! As we drove through the neighborhood, I was amazed at all the families who came out to watch the parade and cheer us on.
The winners of the golf cart decorations were: Best Theme - Chase Gibson; Most Patriotic - Kim Pankonien; Judges’ Choice - Tammy Newsome. Winners received $50 gift cards. The Non-golf cart winner was Kathryn Van Elden who received a Chiller Bee Gift card for $20. Pet winners were Diana Christensen, first place; Julie Pospisil, second place and Shannon Moreau, third place. Pet winners received $20, $15, and $10 gift cards from Pet Supplies Plus. Judges for the day were Tom Cunningham, Desiree Blache’, Christine Bohner, Julie Harris, and Daniel and Ashley Gates.
