STRATFORD - A local smoke and vape shop is facing a $570 civil penalty from the federal Food and Drug Administration after selling e-liquid products to minors twice in less than five months, according to a complaint.

The SN Smoke and Vape shop at 665 Honeyspot Road received a warning letter earlier this year after a clerk sold an e-liquid product to a minor during an inspection on Jan. 30, documents said. The clerk did not ask for photo identification during the sale, the inspector said.

A clerk also sold an e-liquid vape product to a minor during a second inspection that took place on May 20, documents said. The sale of the product and the failure to ask for photo identification are two separate violations, according to FDA regulations.

As a result of the number of violations racked up in less than six months, the store is now facing a $570 civil penalty. The owners of the store have 30 days to request a hearing on the penalty.
