Renewing the call for information on last month’s Stratford homicide
STRATFORD — Police are still investigating last month’s early-morning homicide in Stratford that left a 30-year-old father dead.
Eduardo “Eddie” Concepcion, of Bridgeport, was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital on Jan. 12 after being shot on Regency Terrace around 2:20 a.m.
The shooting, police said, came when two men were sitting in a parked vehicle on the road and were approached by two other men. Capt. Frank Eannotti said the parties “exchanged words,” and one of the approaching men pulled out a gun and fired. Eannotti said “at least one shot” hit Concepcion.
“Those who knew Eddie, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives,” an obituary for Concepcion said. “Eddie will be fondly remembered by family and friends as (a) loving father and a devoted family.”
The obituary said Concepcion would be missed everyday by his son, Julian Concepcion; his grandmother, Celia; his mother, Devora; his father, John; his brother, Kevin; his girlfriend, Samantha; his mother-in-law Wando; and various loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nephew and many friends.
Stratford isn’t known as a town that sees many killings; the town reported none in 2018.
The last homicide before Concepcion was 27-year-old Raenetta Catchings, of Stratford, who police said was shot dead by her uncle, 21-year-old Michael Catchings, on Aug. 15, 2017. He was charged with her murder.
The other slaying in town in 2017 was on May 27, when Andre Pettway, 27, was shot on Garibaldi Avenue and later died at a local hospital. Three people were charged in connection with his murder - Brandyn Ford, of Stratford; Jose Rivera, of Bridgeport; and Wilfredo Martinez, of Bridgeport.
When Pettway was gunned down, Stratford had gone years without a murder; the last reported murder in town before that was in 2011, according to city-data.com, a website that provides statistics on towns and cities nationwide.
Data on the site goes back to 2002 and shows the town had two killings in 2002, 2003, 2008 and 2017; one murder in 2005, 2010 and 2011; and none reported in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
