BRIDGEPORT — The Red Cross is providing assistance to four families after a fire at home on William Street Saturday.

Five adults and four children were affected by the blaze, which saw smoke engulf a multi-family home Saturday evening.

Authorities said two people, a woman and a child, were both rescued from the flames.

“The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire,” said Jonathan Sandstrom, a spokesman for the Red Cross.

The families also receive a recovery envelope with helpful information, and will meet with caseworkers in the coming days to work on their long-term recovery.
