MILFORD — Two New Haven women were charged after police said they took more than $200 worth of merchandise from a store at the Connecticut Post Mall last week.

Leona Nixon, 26, and Tarrah Matthews, 18, both of Whalley Avenue in New Haven, were each charged with sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and criminal trespassing.

Both were released on a promise to appear and they each have scheduled court dates on Jan. 2.

On Wednesday, city officers responded to Boscov’s at 1201 Boston Post Road for a report of two shoplifters in custody, police said. An investigation led to the arrest of the two — identified as Nixon and Matthews.

Police said the duo is accused of, “taking approximately $270 worth of merchandise from the store without paying.”

Nixon and Matthews were banned from the mall property on May 2, police said. Then, they were ordered not to return to the mall for a full year.
