New Milford's 1st and 10 Sports Bar and Grill suddenly closes
NEW MILFORD — A local sports bar announced it was closing suddenly Sunday after roughly nine years in business.
The restaurant, 1st and 10 Sports Bar and Grill, 507 Danbury Road, declared in a Facebook post that it was shutting down. “We are sad to announce that 1st and 10 is no longer open for business,” read the post, which appeared early Sunday afternoon. “We will have more info soon. Thank you to our wonderful Staff and Patrons for all of the great memories. We will miss you all.”
The restaurant opened in 2010 and, according to a Danbury News-Times article about the then-new business, the hope was that it would revitalize a space that had sat vacant for five years. The business’s web site, which was still up Sunday afternoon, heralded its 20 big screen TVs and its menu, which it dubbed “not your ‘average’ sports bar fare; the portions are big & the prices are right!”
The Facebook announcement of the restaurant’s closing sparked a flurry of comments, most of them from people saddened by the news. “When I come to visit my parents we ALWAYS came here for dinner and especially the Irish nachos!!” said one commenter. Another lamented “We had planned on coming this week., as we do every week. You’ll be sorely missed.”
Several posts mentioned the restaurant’s hot wings, one of its signature items.
It was not immediately clear why the business closed and, according to its web site, there were events planned for later in the month, including something called CT Ido, planned for Feb. 28.
No one answered the phone at the restaurant Sunday afternoon.
