Liv’s Gifts opens on Trumbull’s Main Street
TRUMBULL — A new boutique and gift shop has opened where another shuttered earlier this year.
Liv’s Gifts had its grand opening Dec. 21 after quietly being open for business since the day after Thanksgiving in the space previously occupied by Flourishes, which closed earlier this year after more than two decades in town.
Owner Mona Cascella, a Trumbull native who now lives in Easton, used to shop at Flourishes. When she heard the Main Street staple was closing, she decided to open a gift shop of her own.
“My whole goal is making beautiful gifts affordable,” Cascella said.
Six weeks after Cascella decided she wanted to open up her own shop, Liv’s Gifts opened its doors.
With new flooring, a fresh coat of paint and custom decor, Liv’s Gifts combines the chic apparel of a fashion boutique with the handmade, delicate jewelry, trinkets, candles and baby gifts of a gift shop.
Cascella said what sets her store apart from others are the unique items that sell at similar prices to those offered by larger retailers.
Case in point: the shop sells candles that at larger retailers go for the same price, $32 to $40.
The store carries evening wear and casual wear ranging from $30 to $100. Lately, Cascella said, she has been styling customers in her shop.
“You really don’t have to go to downtown Westport or downtown Fairfield,” Cascella said. “I have everything here at excellent prices and we have beautiful gift bags to put them in, so you’re in and out.
“Nobody wants to deal with malls and crowds, but they want great prices,” Cascella said.
Cascella picks out all the merchandise herself, buying from vendors in New York and Connecticut.
Liv’s Gifts customizes merchandise with personal touches. Pillows with Easton, Trumbull and Monroe embossed with each town’s Zip code are on display in the store, along with baby gifts than can be customized.
Ink and pen artwork from a local Trumbull artist is displayed on the walls, and is for sale, along with chocolates, umbrellas and blankets.
“I take my time picking out every single piece that’s here,” Cascella said. “I love it.”
Liv’s Gifts has also caught the attention of Trumbull First Selectman Vicki Tesoro, who highlighted the shop as an asset to Main Street ahead of its grand opening.
“Trumbull is a wonderful community with a charming Main Street,” Tesoro said in a statement. “Liv’s is a great addition to our town. I look forward to shopping local this holiday season.”
Liv’s Gifts is open seven days a week.
