STAMFORD — An emergency call reporting an explosion on Colonial Road around 12:40 p.m. Monday afternoon prompted a fire department response and police to momentarily close off the street up to Mayflower Avenue.

Deputy Fire Chief Eric Lorenz said that firefighters investigated the Colonial Road residence where the call came from but there was no fire nor present danger at the scene, deeming the call a false report.

A resident of the Colonial Road house called around 12:37 p.m. and fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, Lorenz said.

“We’re waiting for the power company to get here and we’re bringing in a fire marshal to make sure things are safe,” Lorenz said.

Two Stamford fire trucks were at the scene along with a number of police cruisers who were monitoring the area. An Eversource crew vehicle appeared around 1 p.m.

“We’re probably going to leave one (fire truck) unit here on Colonial Road to make sure everything is all right,” Lorenz said.
