STAMFORD — A city firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling a garage blaze over the weekend, according to officials.

Firefighters responded to a report of a large garage on fire near several homes on Diaz Street at 5 a.m. Sunday.

Twenty-two firefighters responded to the scene within minutes, finding flames at a large three-bay garage, according to Deputy Chief Matt Palmer.

“The fire was venting through the roof of the building and impinging on several adjacent residences,” Palmer said. “Fire personnel were able to quickly extinguish and contain the fire and safely evacuate the occupants of all affected homes.”

Within 15 minutes, units on scene had the fire under control.

One firefighter suffered a minor injuring while extinguishing the flames, Palmer said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal.
