50 years-to-life prison term for Colonie rape

ALBANY — A 50-year-old sex offender from Colonie was sentenced 50 years to life behind bars for raping a woman last year, according to the Albany County District Attorney's Office.

Last month, a jury convicted Harold Jackson, a Level 3 sex offender, of rape and criminal sexual act for an assault in May near First Street in Colonie. He knew the victim, prosecutors said.

At a hearing before he was sentenced, Jackson was designated a persistent violent felony offender, which then paved the way for him to receive 25 years to life, to run consecutively on each of the offenses.

Assistant District Attorneys Caroline Murray and Matthew Schrantz of the Special Victims Unit handled the case.
