Southwestern Connecticut restaurants named among best in state
Several southwestern Connecticut restaurants land among Connecticut's best, according to a new guide released by Thrillist.
The lifestyle site named the state's top restaurant in several categories ranging from ramen and sushi to Polish food and modern Italian cuisine.
"Connecticut is responsible for gifting the world a number of important foods: the hamburger, the lobster roll, and New Haven-style pizza," the site writes. "And while you'll still find excellent versions of all of these in the Nutmeg State, its dining culture has also expanded well beyond them."
The site named The Green Grunion as the best food truck in the state. The truck is based in Danbury, but often travels around to local breweries.
"Connecticut may be more than 2,000 miles from California, but you can still get a proper San Diego-style burrito here," Thrillist said. "(The Green Grunion) doles out tightly wrapped, house-made tortillas filled with ingredients like chicken, beef, chorizo, and the requisite French fries."
With area locations in Fairfield, New Haven and Norwalk, Mecha Noodle Bar ranked number one in the noodle category.
The site writes, "While you'll find ramen and plenty of other noodle varieties at this local chain, the main focus here is pho, served with both traditional ingredients (like chicken, beef, and shrimp) and not-so-traditional ones (like beef meatballs)."

If you're looking for the best barbecue the state has to offer, Hoodoo Brown BBQ in Ridgefield is the place for you, according to the list. The site said the "Texas-style barbecue joint" opened in 2015, and quickly saw lines out the door.
Cody Sperry, owner of Hoodoo Brown BBQ, said in a recent interview, "Connecticut isn't exactly a barbecue mecca, but we are definitely a unique dining experience in the area."
