A reception for "Happy Chinese New Year," paintings and monoprints based on Chinese photographs by Gayle Gleckler and Tony Woolner of North Salem, N.Y., will take place today, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Nylen Gallery at Picture This, 606 Post Road East, Westport.

The show will be on view from through March 12.

Gleckler and Woolner joined a group tour offered by the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce in 2009, and took hundreds of photographs while traveling from Beijing to Shanghai. Gleckler's acrylic paintings and Woolner's monoprints are based on their favorite images.

"Gayle and Tony bring a Western sensibility to interpreting the traditional Chinese vernacular," said gallery owner Wendy Nylen. "Their use of saturated color and bold line elevate these images from tourist views to art that reflects the energy and spirituality of China."
