The Democratic Women of Westport will honor Marla Cowden with the Silver Donkey award at the organization's luncheon at noon Tuesday in the home of Connie and Stuart Greenfield, 279 Sturges Highway. Wine and cheese will be served at 11:30 a.m. prior to lunch.

Cowden, elected as a Westport registrar of voters in 2009, was a member of the Representative Town Meeting from 2003 to 2007, where she served on the Technology, Employee Compensation and Transit committees. Prior to that, she served as the president of the King's Highway PTA and the PTA Council, and currently is co-president of the PTA Council's Special Education Representative Committee. She has also been vice chairwoman of the Democratic Town Committee and has worked at Democratic headquarters for every election since 1997.

The award is given every year to a Democratic woman who has made contributions to the party's efforts to elect Democrats to local, state, and national offices.

Before the formal award program will be a brief business meeting to elect the DWW Executive Board officers for the coming year.

The Nominating Committee has proposed the following slate, and nominations may also be made from the floor: Bobbie Herman, president; Ginger Tobey, vice president; Connie Greenfield, secretary, and Doris Shiller, treasurer.

The event will also include presentation of the DWW scholarship, which is given every year to a Staples female senior. The scholar is chosen by Staples High School through the Staples High School Tuition Grants Committee, and the funds are sent directly to the school of the recipient's choice.

The cost of the luncheon is $20 per person. For reservations and information, call 203-227-7394 or 203-226-3642. Checks may be sent to DWW, 10 Cypress Lane, Westport CT 06880 or payment will be accepted at the door. Annual DWW dues of $25 may be paid at that time as well.
