Church hosts speaker from retreat program

"The Quest for Personal Holiness" is the topic in the April 2 presentation in the St. Luke Church lecture series.
Speaker will be the Rev. Tom Hoar, S.S.E., president of St. Edmund's Retreat in Mystic. The free program gets under way at 7 p.m. in the community room of the church, 49 Turkey Hill Road North. It follows a wine-and-cheese reception at 6:30 p.m.
Hoar received a bachelor of arts degree and a master of divinity degree from the University of St. Michael's College in Toronto. He also has a master of arts degree in religion and religious education from Fordham University and a PhD in higher education administration from Michigan State University. After serving in various parish and campus ministries, he came to St. Edmund's Retreat in 1993 and has been retreat director, director of development, director and, since 2003, its president. The retreats at St. Edmund's are offered to couples, families, priests and people recovering from substance abuse and addictions.
Hoar also helped to establish St. Michael's Institute of Sacred Art, which offers several types of sacred art workshops.
