Expedition leader and photographer Stefan Kindberg will make an audio-visual presentation, "From Antarctica to the High Arctic by Sea," to the Appalachian Mountain Club on Wednesday, November 10 in Westport.
Over the past 30 years, Kindberg has led numerous small ship based expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic, and in this presentation, he will share fascinating experiences and amazing photographs from these trips. His work on these small ships has taken him from Antarctica to the High Arctic including Greenland, Iceland, Canada, Spitsbergen, Northern Russia and Siberia.
"My travel interest began in 1961 when I first visited Thule, Greenland," Kindberg said. "I was born and raised at the Arctic Circle in Sweden. I have experienced the midnight sun and the 24-hour darkness of winter."
Working as an expedition leader on small expedition ships, Kindberg has also traveled to Europe; the Indian Ocean; the Amazon and Orinoco Rivers; the east and west coasts of South America; the Far East including China, Japan, the Kuril Islands, and Kamchatka; and the coasts of Africa and Madagascar. He is a member of the Explorers Club in New York and the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce.
The presentation will be at Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East, Westport. Wine and cheese will be from 6.15 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. and the presentation at 8 p.m. AMC members and nonmembers are welcome to attend. The cost is $8 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Participants are asked to bring along a dessert to share if they can. No reservations are required; pay at door only.
