$35K raised by Westport event to fight Lyme disease

Turn the Corner held its third annual third annual "Walk/Run to Turn the Corner on Lyme" event at Sherwood Island State Park on April 10, hosted by Westport resident Orna Grand.
The goal of the event was to raise funds and awareness for Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases on behalf of Turn the Corner Foundation, a non- profit organization that raises awareness and funds for research and education.
Approximately $35,000 has been raised so far by the event, which included 210 walkers in either a 1.5-mile or 3-mile walk, and 124 runners participating in a 5- or 10-K races. Donations may still be made at the website, www.turnthecorner.org/walks.
Also present were Weston First Selectwoman Gayle Weinstein and representatives from the Westport-Weston and Ridgefield health districts.
The 10-K first-place male and female runners were Sean Mehner from Norwalk at 38:35 and Ann Williams of Old Greenwich at 43:24. Second-place male and female runners were Scott Donahue of Brooklyn at 39:43 and Lisa Fay of Westport at 45:16. The 5-K first-place male and female runners were Sam Cohen of Westport at 18:39 and Jessica LeBoeuf of Norwalk at 21:20. Second-place male and female runners were Reed Geisler of Westport at 19:13 and Sarah Lindstrom of Bristol at 25:01. Complete race results are posted on clubct.org.
