The Staples boys swimming team swept a rare tri-meet Friday at Weston to raise its record to 5-3. Staples defeated host Weston, 100-85 and Fairfield, 107-71. Fairfield defeated Weston, 94-87.

Wreckers Coach Jeff Schare said, "To come away from a tri meet with two wins makes me very happy, this is our third meet this week and it says a lot about our boys and their abilities to preform after such and exhausting week."

Staples did so well that it even went exhibition the last two events of the meet. The tri-meet was scheduled because of the rash of snow-induced cancellations. Originally, the Wreckers were supposed to host the Fairfield co-op meet but everything got combined into a tri-meet.

"Considering all the interruptions in our practice schedule I am very proud of my boys, this was a very close very exciting meet" said Mustangs Coach Victor Mirrer.

Despite its loss, Weston was still proud of the end result.

"We did the best we could for our small size and we did very well for what we were up against number wise," Trojans senior co-captain Spencer Kelly said.

This meets diving event was nothing short of amazing. With 7 divers, diving six times each, each team was able to showcase their divers abilities. Staples senior captain Zach Slater won with a score of 260.60. Weston sophomore Dean Rapp (199.88) took second and Wrecker sophomore Tanner Blank (188) placed third.

All participants in the meet swam their hardest and many went home with personal bests. Staples had strong finishes in the medley relay (1:47:19), senior captain Scott Feder in the 100-yard butterfly (59:29) and senior captain Cory Bacon in winning the 100-yard freestyle (51:79). Sophomore Nathaniel Boley delivered another win for the Wreckers in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08:66).

Juniors Kyle Bacon and Matt Wisher gave Staples wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50:37) and 100-yard backstroke (59.01). The Wrecker won the 200yard freestyle relay (1:35:40).

The Trojans had two victories with sophomore Jordan Berger triumphing in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09:22) and Kelly won the 50-yard freestyle (23.68). Fairfield won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07:27) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:42:42).
