Trifone says no changes expected to Darien roster before state semifinal

DARIEN — Putting it plainly, Darien coach Rob Trifone said he foresees no changes to the Darien roster before its Class LL semifinal game against West Haven on Sunday.
The Blue Wave will host the Blue Devils at 12:30 p.m., and will have the services of their quarterback Jack Joyce in his second-straight start after being suspended for the Turkey Bowl against New Canaan.
Without Joyce, who threw for 1,877 yards and 27 touchdowns and rushed for another 351 in the regular season, Darien was shutout last Thursday.
Tuesday, the senior accounted for all three of Darien’s touchdowns (two throwing, one rushing) in a 30-10 quarterfinal win over East Hartford.
What Trifone’s statement also means, is that the Blue Wave will be without two-way starters Brian Minicus (suspension) who has three receiving touchdowns and six interceptions, and Nick Green (undisclosed), the team’s leading tackler, for the third straight game.
Defensively, Darien has fared much better despite the absences, allowing a total of two touchdowns and three field goals against the high-powered New Canaan and East Hartford offenses.
Athletic Director Chris Manfredonia declined to comment on the situation, citing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
