Despite having a 30-18 advantage in shots and a 26-14 lead in ground balls, the second-seeded Staples boys lacrosse team lost 10-7 at home to seventh-seeded St. Joseph on Saturday. St. Joseph senior captain goalie Tim Izzo made 16 saves in saddling Staples with its first loss, dropping the Wreckers to 16-1. The Cadets raised their record to 12-5 and will play New Canaan on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Brien McMahon High.

Junior Charlie Ross had three goals and four ground balls and junior captain Kip Orban had a goal, an assist and seven ground balls for Staples.
