Despite jumping out to a 5-1 lead, the 10th-seeded Staples girls lacrosse team fell short in the Division II finals on Saturday. Seventh-seeded Fairfield Ludlowe had the territorial advantage for most of the second half and won the ground ball battle in a 15-9 victory over Staples. Ludlowe finished the season at 16-6. The Lady Wreckers ended their season at 15-7.

Sophomore Ali Crofts led Staples with three goals and junior Elizabeth Driscoll had two goals. Senior captain Blair Barone deftly set up the offense. The southpaw Barone had four assists and Crofts had two goals off of Barone's passes. Junior Penny Tsilfides made seven saves, most coming in the first half, which helped keep the Lady Wreckers on top until the Lady Falcons eventually tied it.
