The Staples girls cross country team placed 11th with 241 points at the Class LL championships at Wickham Park last Saturday. Senior Ingrid Johnson said, "Yes, I'm very pleased with the outcome of the meet. Last year we placed 12th, while this year we placed 11th, so we're definitely happy with the improvement."

In first for Staples and 22nd overall was Johnson with a time of 20:41 and qualified for today's State Open meet. She comments, "I'm happy to have improved, as my time this year was much faster than my time last year. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to run with some of the fastest runners in the state at Opens."

In second for Staples was senior captain Emily Hanrahan (21:33) followed by junior Caroline Smith (21:34) and sophomore Judy Feng (21:41). Hanrahan has struggled in the last few races but was pleased with this performance. She said, "I finally had a good race. Caroline Judy and I all worked together and we finished very close to each other. Its so helpful to be in a race of 130 girls but run with your teammates. I wouldn't have been able to do this well without them."

Also finishing for Staples were senior captain Rachel Myers (22:27), junior Alex Popkin (22:28), and senior Emily Harris (22:31).
