NORWALK — Maysa Akbar, author of “Urban Trauma: A Legacy of Racism” will be speaking at East Campus, Gen Re forum at Norwalk Community College at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Akbar is a psychologist who did her doctoral fellowship at Yale School of Medicine and has become known for her work putting mental health into a context of historical adversity, understanding the generation-to-generation impact of trauma that began with slavery on families today. She personally has experienced homelessness and physical abuse and will speak about her personal experiences which led to the research behind the book.
