At a time when we are as connected as ever thanks to social media, we never know who exactly might see something we post online.

For 31-year-old Black Rock-based musician Andrew Angus, that person was actor and former-wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

“[There was] my face smack-dab in the middle of 'The Rock's'  Instagram page with 231 million followers at the time,” said Angus. “I’m laying there on the bed in this hotel just freaking out man. It was wild.”

Angus, who goes by stage name of Drew Angus, is talking about his cover of The Turtles’ “Happy Together” that he posted on his Instagram. It ended up being reposted on Johnson’s Instagram account. The video shows Angus serenading a bottle of Teremana Tequila, Johnson's tequila company, with a cover of the iconic song.

“When one drinks their ‘mana, you magically sing as good as @drewangusmusic!,” Johnson wrote along with the re-post.

Johnson's post has since gone on to garner 1.5 million views and 248,000 likes a week after its initial posting.

“It was incredible to have something [happen to me] that I thought was kind of a joke,” Angus said.

Angus was in his hotel room outside of Myrtle Beach when he got a message that Johnson had reposted his video.  “The day prior to that...there was more activity on my Instagram than I was used to. We couldn’t figure it out,” Angus said. “I’m seeing more real activity [and] real people getting excited about my music.”

Angus divulged that he had been targeting "The Rock" and Teremana Tequila on social media. He previously got a repost from Teremana and said he wasn’t expecting much after that.

Since Johnson's repost, Angus’ Instagram has reached over 1 million accounts, and is continuing to grow.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time,” Angus added.

On April 30, just three days after Johnson's post, the Westport native dropped his latest single, “Made to Love You.”

The song, which is produced by Grammy Award-winner Mikhail Pivovarov and written by Angus and co-writer Matt Giella, will be the first-dance song at Angus’ best friend’s wedding.

“Made to Love You” will also be getting its music video premiere on May 7. The one-shot music video was directed by Connecticut-native Shari Goldenberg and was choreographed by and features New York based ballet dancers Silken Kelly and Jonatan Lujan.

Aside from the new single and music video, Angus is prepping a new album for a late 2021 release and depending on COVID restrictions, will be touring with Louisiana singer-songwriter Marc Broussard in November.
