Barnum Sails the Sound: Dinner, sunset cruise supports annual fest
Celebrating its 70th anniversary, the Barnum Festival is this year promoting all things traditional.
On Saturday, June 9, the festival again offers one of it most popular events: Barnum Sails the Sound. The event begins with a dockside picnic at 5 p.m., followed by a sunset cruise of Long Island Sound, embarking at 7:15 from the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Co. dock in downtown Bridgeport. Music, dancing and a full bar will be featured aboard the ferry.
Tickets include dinner, cruise, two cocktails on board the boat, plus two round-trip ferry tickets, at a value of $54 each, to use any time before Dec. 31.
All proceeds will benefit Barnum Festival activities and scholarships, the festival said. The event is sponsored by the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Co., which was co-founded by P.T. Barnum, a 19th-century Bridgeport-based entertainment entrepreneur who the festival honors.
“Appreciating today, and looking forward to the future” is this year’s theme.
The festival is built on “a tradition of uniting together, a tradition of giving back, and a tradition of celebrating those who serve others,” the festival says. “Tradition is a value that our 2018 Ringmaster — Johnny Vazzano — holds very near and dear to his heart. A Bridgeport native, he is a beloved local restaurant and business owner who goes above and beyond to recognize, partner with, and care for those who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. As the leader of the 2018 Barnum Festival, Johnny will continue the tradition of listening to and supporting residents, all while singing loud and proud for the community’s unsung heroes.”
