Bonnie Marcus to receive EWN's Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Westport resident Bonnie Marcus will join the ranks of some of the top business women in the country June 7 when the Entrepreneurial Woman's Network (EWN) presents her with its 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Marcus will receive the honor at the EWN's Annual Grand Networking Event, from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Norwalk Inn & Conference Center, 99 East Ave. The keynote speaker will be Debra Condren, Ph.D., author of Ambition is Not a Dirty Word, A Woman's Guide to Earning Her Worth and Achieving Her Dreams.

Condren, a sought-after speaker, business psychologist, researcher and career advisor, is the recipient of the U.S. Small Business Administration's "Women In Business Advocate of the Year" award. She has coached thousands of women during her career and has found that each woman possesses the same fear: If she goes after her dream, she'll be seen -- or even regard herself -- as selfish, a bad wife, or a bad mother.

Condren will share her new message and mission: You can redefine your ambition without guilt and without sacrificing the rest of your life. She invites participants to e-mail her one burning question they'd love to have answered. Questions may e-mailed to; three submitters will be selected for a free half-hour phone coaching session.

Recognized as a pioneer for women in business and a frequent mentor to other aspiring entrepreneurs, Marcus launched her stationery company in 2002, while pregnant with her first child. Seven years, three children and more than 3,000 designs later, the award-winning Bonnie Marcus Collection is now sold in more than 1,000 retail stores around the world, including Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harrods of London and Destination Maternity. Featured in O, The Oprah Magazine, a Hearst publication, and most recently on the Today Show, she expanded with a collection of fashionable flip flops and licensed her "must have" tote bags in 2008.

Marcus won the prestigious American Express "Make Mine a Million Dollar Business" contest in 2006 and has served as the small business spokesperson for the Bank of America. In 2009, she was featured in Entrepreneur magazine and won StartUp Nation's "Leading Moms in Business Contest" as one of the top 100 "mom-owned" businesses in the country.

A sold-out event in prior years, attendees of the EWN's grand networking event discover if they are truly "well-connected." Rotating from table to table, participants share salad with one table, entrées with another and dessert in the company of a third group, while exchanging ideas, experiences and business cards. To be guaranteed a spot in the rotating tables, pre-registration must be made online at no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, June 4. Members and non-members will pay the same discounted price of $60 in advance.
