Dr. David Gruen has joined the board of directors of the Connecticut affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Weston resident is the director of women's imaging at Danbury Hospital, Connecticut Women's Imaging and Danbury Radiology Associates, and a nationally-recognized expert on breast cancer detection, including mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI and minimally invasive breast biopsy.

Gruen, who received his bachelor of arts and doctoral degrees from Cornell University, will serve as the board's Fairfield County representative. Gruen, the only radiologist on the board, said he is particularly excited about joining the Komen Connecticut team, as he is currently working with the American College of Radiology to rewrite the practice guidelines for imaging management of in situ and invasive breast cancers.
