Newtown welcomed the latest addition to its dining scene this weekend with the opening of Market Place Kitchen & Bar.
The restaurant – located at the town's new shopping plaza, the Village at Lexington Gardens – is a modern American eatery "committed to sourcing local ingredients and working with local farmers," according to a release announcing the opening.
Market Place Kitchen & Bar in Newtown is one of five restaurants owned and operated by Market Hospitality Group, including sister locations in Danbury, Woodbury and Avon. The Danbury site was recently recognized by Hearst Connecticut Media Group as the top Yelp-reviewed restaurant for fine dining in the Danbury area.
"We are delighted and honored to be a local business supporting local farms," Eli Hawli, managing partner for Market Hospitality Group, said in a release. "As our Market Place family continues to grow, we will continue to provide the same quality of craft cocktails and chef-driven cuisine which we know all of our wonderful customers want and expect from us."
Each of the group's restaurants encourages "local, organic and sustainably harvested food," the release states. The menu is driven by what's in season.
At Market Place Kitchen & Bar in Newtown, diners can now expect winter-inspired cocktails and dishes like pear & Gorgonzola ravioli (with roasted butternut squash and maple walnut brown butter sauce) and four-hour braised short ribs (served with roasted cauliflower, whipped potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts).
As the seasons change, Executive Chef Alex Lowe will update the menu with dishes that showcase fresh, local ingredients. Lowe joined Market Hospitality Group in 2013 as a sous chef at the group's Danbury location. He became Executive Chef there in 2014, and will now be sharing his culinary skills as he leads the kitchen at Market Place Kitchen & Bar in Newtown.
