BROOKFIELD — The Five Guys burger restaurant on Federal Road has closed after a 10-year run.
Property owner Jim Triantis said the popular burger chain did not renew its lease after it expired on Dec. 31. The standalone building, next to the ShopRite Plaza, is available for lease and being represented by Rams, a Ridgefield-based real estate advisory firm.
“They were good tenants but I expected this because their 10-year lease was up,” Triantis said.
Five Guys could not be reached for comment.
Triantis said interest is already high in the property, mostly from prospective tenants interested in opening another food establishment.
“There are four or five people already interested,” he said. “I’m talking to some chains, but if a family comes in first, we’ll see. There are people interested in opening a diner. I can wait until we have the right tenant.”
Triantis has owned the property since 1974 and operated the Red Colony Diner for several years. The building at 121 Federal Road is his only Brookfield property, but he owns others throughout the state. The Branford resident owns and operates Twin Pines Diner in East Haven.
He said the busy stretch of Federal Road in Brookfield has changed a lot over the years and he expects the next tenant to be successful.
“The road has always been busy and now it’s even more busy,” Triantis said. “Whatever goes in there will do excellent.”
Federal Road in Brookfield includes chain restaurants McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A, Dunkin Donuts, and Moe’s Southwestern Grill. A Burger King, Dunkin Donuts and Hummus & Pita Co. are under construction and slated to open soon. Federal Road in Danbury has a Robeks, KFC, Salsa Fresca and Arby’s.
Five Guys, known for its burgers, fries and peanuts, was founded in 1986 in Washington, D.C. It has about 1,500 locations worldwide. It has approximately 20 locations in Connecticut, including one that opened this week in Oxford.
Five Guys opened a location about 10 miles away on Route 7 in New Milford this past summer. That location was the chain’s first in Litchfield County. There is also a Five Guys on South Main Street in Newtown.
