Financial-crisis author to be in Westport
Heather Murren, author of "The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report," will be in Westport March 3 for a book-signing at Barnes & Noble on Post Road East.
Her appearance is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. at the book store at 1076 Post Road East.
Murren served on the 10-member federal Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. Its report following an 18-month investigation concluded that the 2006-2008 financial crisis was avoidable, caused by human mistakes that could have been avoided had warning signs been heeded, and could happen again if changes were not made.
Twenty-four hours after it was published Jan. 27, the report surged to No. 13 overall on Amazon Books. It was No. 10 on the New York Times Feb. 20 nonfiction paperback bestseller list, No. 4 on the Washington Post's Feb. 13 nonfiction paperback list and No. 10 on the USA Today Money books list.
The website, www.fcic.gov, has been averaging more than 31,000 unique visitors each day and is closing in on one million unique visitors.
Murren and her husband, Jim, are former Fairfield County residents. Jim Murren's family has lived in the Westport-Fairfield area for several generations. They now live in the Las Vegas area.
