A Brazilian native and longtime Stamford resident, Nelson has been with Hearst Connecticut Media since 2013. He joined the organization months after graduating from Stony Brook University on Long Island, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He first worked as a town reporter for the New Canaan News, then as a crime and general assignment reporter for the News-Times in Danbury and he now covers education and general assignments for the Advocate in Stamford. Nelson also has an associate’s degree from Norwalk Community College as well as several awards from local and international journalism associations.
