The Staples-Weston Shelton boys co-op hockey team avenged last year's Division III finals loss last Friday with a 3-2 win at Watertown to raise its record to 3-0.
Despite playing Watertown every year, Wreckers coach Ralph Unker insists it isn't a rivalry just yet. "It was a win like any other," He said, "We lost last year in the state final which isn't what we wanted, but it's not like an FCIAC contest. We started 3-0, which was one of our goals, so I'll take that win."
However, Liu is expected to be out for six weeks, which will create a hurdle for the Wreckers. "He's our best player and leading scorer," Unker said, "The rest of out guys are going to have to pick it up if we want to continue on our way."
MacDonald shined in net with 35 saves, which was a difference-maker. "He helps us win games," Unker said. "He shut them down on a lot of great scoring chances."
