A Westport teenager organized a youth hockey event in Shelton that raised more than $12,000 for breast cancer research.

Emily Crocker spearheaded a `Pink Rink' event with her team, the New Jersey Colonials, at the Rinks at Shelton on Oct. 27. Crocker and her team held the event to benefit research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, according to a news release.

The team raised over $4,500 through donations, raffle and merchandise sales and a silent auction the night of the event. Anonymous subsequent donations brought the total to $12,442.

Crocker, 18, is a senior at Westminster School in Simsbury and plays hockey for the Colonials. The Colonials are a Tier 1 U-19 youth hockey team based out of Middletown/Bridgewater, N.J.
