Former Staples graduate Mo Deegan was recently selected for induction into the Eastern Connecticut State University Hall of Fame. The two-sport star, who graduated in 2005, tallied outstanding numbers in lacrosse and field hockey.
In lacrosse, Deegan holds career records for goals (243), assists (136) and points (379). In field hockey, Deegan's career marks for goals (29), assists (21), points (79) and game-winning goals (8) have remained the program standard for the last nine years. Deegan was a four-year starter in both sports.
In her career, Westport native Deegan set current career records for goals, assists and points in field hockey and lacrosse, earning an array of individual honors which included national recognition, and All-New England Region and All-Little East Conference honors in both sports. She was a four-time all-conference selection in both sports, three times gaining first-team honors in each.
Deegan becomes the first Hall of Fame selection from the field hockey program and second inductee from the women's lacrosse program. Deegan earned many national, regional, conference and institutional recognition, setting career standards for scoring in both lacrosse and field hockey which have not yet been approached.
At Staples, Deegan was named All-FCIAC first team as a senior in both sports.
The induction ceremony takes place Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Betty R. Tipton Room in the Student Center on campus. A 4 p.m. reception will precede the 5 p.m. ceremony, with a buffet dinner to follow.
