Weal's OT goal lifts Monarchs to win over Sound Tigers

Jordan Weal scored 2:36 into overtime Wednesday to give the host Manchester Monarchs a 3-2 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Bridgeport has won just one of the past 10, though it has four overtime or shootout losses in those games, including the past two.
"We've had tough breaks twice now that have happened to us in overtime," Bridgeport coach Scott Pellerin said.
"We've got to find a way not to play these three-point games."
The Sound Tigers trail the Connecticut Whale, holder of the eighth and final playoff spot, by seven points with 20 games to play.
Rick DiPietro made 24 saves in his third Bridgeport start since coming down from the NHL a week ago.
"I thought he made some big saves," Pellerin said. "He got knocked into twice, but he came out and made some big saves."
The Sound Tigers came from behind twice Wednesday. Mike Halmo's deflection made it 1-1 early in the third period.
Colton Yellow Horn gave the Monarchs a lead with 7:11 left, but Nino Niederreiter scored his first goal in eight games less than two minutes later to get it to overtime.
Bridgeport outshot the Monarchs 34-27.
"I thought we generated a lot of chances, but not a lot of quality chances," Pellerin said. "We had pucks around the areas we needed, but we weren't able to bang them home."
Ian O'Connor, who's from nearby Londonderry, N.H., and played for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs growing up, scored his first AHL goal in the second period.
Bridgeport went 0-for-3 on the power play, extending its franchise-record drought to 40 chances. Its last power-play goal came in its second-to-last win, Feb. 12.
