The Staples (16-1) girls tennis team wrapped up its regular season with an 11-match winning streak to earn the No. 2 spot in the FCIAC tournament.

The Wreckers rode that momentum in the FCIAC quarterfinals on Wednesday, as all three doubles teams earned wins to defeat Fairfield Warde 5-2 to advance to the semifinals for a second straight year.

Staples will meet No. 3 Darien at home on Friday in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Wilton and Ludlowe will meet in the other semifinal.

Staples beat Warde at this stage last year, but lost all three doubles matches. This time the Wreckers turned the table as the No. 1 team of Avery Wallace and Tess Rubin defeated Ashley Aufiero and Mary Ball 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, the No 2 team of Megan Brown and Kristin Butler beat Morgan McCuaig and Megan Christenson 6-2, 6-1 and the No 3 team of Hannah Bjorkman and Olivia Daytz beat Morgan and Samantha Strelzer 6-3, 6-1.

In singles, Warde's Emily Simonds beat Vanessa Mauricio 6-3, 6-3, and teammate Jenny Schneider defeated Staples' Alex Collins 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
