Staples boys basketball storms past Stamford

Senior guard Peter Rankowitz scored a game-high 21 points to help lead the Staples High boys basketball team to a 59-46 win over Stamford on Friday evening.

Rankowitz hit five of his team's seven 3-pointers as the Wreckers improved to 2-1 on the season.

Guard James Frusciante scored 13 points for the Wreckers, while forward Ross Whelan and Alexander Addessi chipped in eight points apiece.

Staples led 33-13 at halftime and carried a 23-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Stamford was led in scoring by junior Ken Wright, who had 17 points. The Black Knights fell to 0-4 on the season.
