The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost for the first time in five games Friday night, and they're hopeful their top-line center isn't lost for an extended period, too.
"It's unacceptable for a guy to sneak in without anybody seeing him," Pellerin said.
Bridgeport was already missing Strome by then. A fan's photo posted on Twitter indicated the AHL all-star centerman left with a hand injury. Pellerin downplayed the injury, reported the Times Union's Pete Dougherty.
"It's just an upper-body injury. We're taking a cautionary approach," Pellerin said by phone, adding Strome will be evaluated Saturday before Bridgeport's game against Springfield at Webster Bank Arena.
The Sound Tigers had scoring chances over the last 47 minutes, despite needing 13 minutes to put their first shot on Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid's net.
Bridgeport shot wide on a second-period four-on-one as the teams traded odd-man rushes. Strome served a tripping penalty late in the second, then after being set free was involved in a shift with his regular linemates that peppered Kinkaid.
All that beat Kinkaid (27 saves) was a first-period power-play goal by Alan Quine, who scored on his own bouncing rebound, his first goal in over a month.
Bridgeport's Anders Nilsson made 20 saves in his return from an NHL stint.
