For a team that has scored 214 goals (while allowing 238) this season, two goals the Bridgeport Sound Tigers didn't score may be their most memorable.
For the second time in two weeks the Sound Tigers had a crucial goal disallowed. The Portland Pirates took two leads Friday, added an empty-net goal and won 3-1 in Portland, Maine, to eliminate Bridgeport from playoff contention.
"It's definitely a tough night," Bridgeport coach Scott Pellerin said. "I thought we deserved to win that game. A couple of situations, the play could've gone either way.
"The guys left it all on the ice. That's what I'm proud of."
Bridgeport began Friday five points out of a playoff spot with three games to play.
Midway through the second, Matt Donovan's power-play point shot beat a screened Mark Visentin. It would have opened the scoring, but referee Trent Knorr waved it off with Brandon DeFazio at the top of the crease.
"If they're going to call all those goals (back), we'll have to go back in the video bank and look at the goals scored against us all year," Pellerin said. "Looking at the video, even during the play, if they're going to call that, they've got to call that all year long."
Friday, Chris Brown scored his 28th on a rush up the right wing with 8:23 to go to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead. He added an empty-netter.
Evan Brophey and Bridgeport's Ryan Strome traded goals after two scoreless periods.
UMass Lowell forward Riley Wetmore signed an amateur tryout and made his pro debut. He has signed an AHL contract for next season, as have Quinnipiac defenseman Mike Dalhuisen and Cornell forward Greg Miller, the team announced.
