Starting off with five in a row at home, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers' 13th season schedule includes two familiar rivals more than ever.
The Sound Tigers, who open up Oct. 5 at home against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, have 12 games scheduled with the Hartford Wolf Pack and 10 with the Albany Devils, as well as eight with the Adirondack Phantoms.
The 76-game schedule includes only four weekday home games: two morning games geared toward school groups, Nov. 5 and April 1; the night after Thanksgiving and the night after Christmas, both against the Wolf Pack.
Bridgeport had played Hartford, whether it operated as the Wolf Pack or the Connecticut Whale, 10 times every season. This matches the most games Bridgeport has ever played in a season against one opponent; it drew Manchester 12 times in 2010-11.
St. John's is back on the Bridgeport schedule; the Sound Tigers will visit Newfoundland for two games in March and the IceCaps will play here in November and March. Bridgeport also has a home-and-home with newcomer Utica, which appears at Webster Bank Arena on March 2.
To make room for the additions, Bridgeport drops four games with each of Norfolk and Providence (down to four each) as well as a home-and-home with each of Portland, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Worcester.
Five weekend home dates begin the season (the payback comes in January, with eight of 12 on the road). The season ends on the road with a Friday-Saturday trip to Adirondack and Hartford.
The Utica Comets are the Sound Tigers' first opponent from the Western Conference since they played Abbotsford in 2009-10. The Comets moved from Peoria, Ill., and are affiliated with the Vancouver Canucks.
